History
of Pitlane Racing:
Bill Royce started his racing career in Go
Karts in 1980 in Calgary. In 1985 Calgary's Race City Motor Sport Park
opened and Bill entered the very first Enduro race. A career change kept
Bill from racing until 1989 where he returned in a Street Stock Division
for a few races. Bill soon found out that you can not run at the front of
the pack with an inferior race car. In 1991 he bought one of the top
street stocks available at that time only to find out, from his Dad's 30
years of experience, it wasn't that good a car. Bill, and Ed Buhler,
rebuilt the car from the ground up. He started the 1992 season breaking
the Track Record! He went on to win 16 of 24 Races and the 1992 Street
Stock Championship.
Bill has always had an open mind to the
setup of a race car he spent his time understanding the principles and
geometry of a race car from people like Buck Baker, Randy Baker, Chas
Howe, Lefthander chassis technical Support and Ted Zerbin. Bills analogy
of racing is you can't be a professional learning from an amateur.
In 1997 Bill and his wife Wenda started up
the Western Racing League in order to organize and delivery quality stock
car events with late models across Western Canada. The series was a great
success with some of the best races in Western Canadian History.
Unfortunately, because of busy schedules they had to give up the series,
as racing doesn't pay well in Canada.
Bill has had success racing in Cascar, Super
Trucks, Big Rigs, and Late Models; he is still very active in racing on
both sides of the border. Bill wants to try the Extreme Dirt late models
in 2006.
In 2004 Bill got word that Calgary based
Guyon Racing was in receivership. The opportunity came up to purchase
their inventory. So Bill decided this would be a business he understands,
so why not.
On Bill and Wenda's personal property there
was an old barn with no floors in it, after a big remodeling job, that
barn became on January 2005 - Pitlane Racing Depot.
Bill tried to keep working in the lumber
business while building awareness for Pitlane Racing Depot. In July 2005
Pitlane became Bills main focus. In January 2006 Pitlane moved into the
City of Edmonton to attract more business and keep steady hours. The
company is still building awareness in Western Canada and will continue to
do so, competing against the box stores for performance parts. Pitlane
Racing Depot is a performance parts supplier for all forms of racing and
street rods.
The shop is 2000 square feet containing
thousands of performance and racing related parts with new orders arriving
daily. Bill also builds late model stockcars and is affiliated with
fabrication shops in Edmonton Alberta.
